Keiko and Yoshiaki Onodera are creating original glass kaleidoscopes with themes. They have produced 4 pieces inspired by "The Tale of Genji".
"The Tale of Genji" is one of the most famous classic novels of Japan and is written by a female writer called Murasaki Shikibu in the beginning of the 11th century. The tale is a masterpiece consisting of 54 chapters that depicts the life of an imperial prince and ladies and had a significant influence on later literary works.
This is "AOI-NO-UE"
The glass tube is hand-painted by the artist on inside. Each of the four kaleidoscopes is titled with lady's name and represents each story. The artists try to express their impression of the story by the exterior colors and inner images produced by fine object pieces.
The oil cell is filled with glass and metallic objects, which produces intricate color patterns with narrow-angled three-mirror system. Many colors are uniquely combined and creates different impressions every time you turn the body.
3-mirror system. Liquid cell. Rotate the entire tube to enjoy the changing images.
