Chitoshi Takabayashi ”Phenomenal/Twilight”

Chitoshi Takabayashi is a wood kaleidoscope artist.　He trained with Randy and Shelley Knapp and uses their experience to create his own unique pieces.　He has the woodworking skills to express many types of wood and applies his attention to glass objects in his kaleidoscope production.
This piece is made from a wood called Areca, which shows a very unique grain.
In Twilight, one of the Phenomenal series, a polarizing plate and a milky white plate are combined at the tip to create natural shades like sunset and twilight. Because it is an oil cell, the colors flow and change and overlap in an interesting way. The cell is built into the tip of the tube, with a simple design of brass parts matching the peephole and tip.　This new work was presented at the workshop exhibition in November 2024.
