Chitoshi Takabayashi is a wood kaleidoscope artist. He trained with Randy and Shelley Knapp and uses their experience to create his own unique pieces. He has the woodworking skills to represent several types of wood and applies her attention to glass objects in his kaleidoscope making.
This piece is one of the "Phenomenal" series,"Classic", and is a dry cell kaleidoscope. The reason for the name 'classic' is because it was created with the bush kaleidoscopes  in mind that were popular in the USA in the late 19th century . Receiving light from the front, the images produced by the glass object are full of transparency. The design is simple, with a cell built into the end of the tube and brass parts matching the peephole and tip. The sound of the glass object moving each time the tube is turned is pleasant. This new work was presented at the workshop exhibition in November 2024.
Height 132 mm, maximum diameter 41 mm.
